Database and Non Database site..Which one do you have?

An easy way to know whether your site is database or non database is to check your page extensions. If your pages have .htm extension after the title, then those pages are non database driven. Even if you have booking forms on your site that does not mean that the site is database driven.

Bandwidth Allowance- Also known as Data Transfer or Traffic Allowance...How much will I need?

This is the amount of monthly download allocated to your site.
For example with the $$5.99/mo hosting plan you are allowed 5Gb of monthly traffic. What this means is that 5Gb of data can be downloaded from your site within one month. In English: Every time when someone views your web site they are using bandwidth/downloading data. If your page has 50Kb then every user viewing that page is using 50 Kb of the bandwidth allocated to your site.

How much is actually 5 GB? Well as a general guideline, the average site is between 35-70Kb in size. (1GB=1000MB=1000000Kb,) therefore, you have 5,000,000 Kb allowance. Now if you consider that average web page has 50Kb it will mean that that one page can be viewed 100,000 times in order for you to stay within the limits of the traffic allowance. Now average visit for a smaller site is 5 pages per visitor. This means that roughly 20 000 viewers can view your site in one month, and you would stay inside the limit.

On the other hand, if you have video, mp3 or other media files on your site they may take up a lot more traffic. I can not give you the rough estimate unfortunately. You can email us with your URL and we will be able to tell you more precisely which plan would be most suitable.

If you have just started developing your site and are not sure how much traffic you will need, purchase the $$5.99/mo plan (if you don't have a database on the site) and if after a certain period it turns out that you need more traffic you can always easily upgrade to the higher traffic plan.

Web Space/Storage allowance

This is the amount of storage space that is allocated for your web site.
This means that the size of your web site can not exceed the limit set.
You can check exactly how large your site is, by clicking the right mouse button on the main(root folder) of your site, and choosing the properties option(at the bottom). This will display the total size of the folder where your site is kept. Therefore this is the size of your web site.
(If you have a site less than 500 pages don't even bother checking it will be plenty). All of Eroute hosting plans have enough space for at least 1500 pages.

Web site control Panel

You can make additions and changes to your site in 2 ways.

1.Through control panels.
2.Through the ftp client (cute ftp, Dreamweaver etc).

Control panel is online interface through which you will be able to administrate your web site. In other words it is used for uploading, deleting files, managing email accounts etc.

They are very simple and user friendly and come with full instructions and support so you simply can't get lost even if you are the beginner.

FTP

One mistake at choosing the host for your site you cannot afford to make is to choose a host that only gives you limited ftp access ie. 5 times per month. Why? Because this means that you can only make changes to your site 5 times per month. Maybe you are not updating your site a lot at the moment, but there may come a time when you decide to either redesign the whole site or make large alterations or additions and you will fall victim to additional fees for going over the ftp access limit. Therefore you must choose the plan that gives you the unlimited ftp access.

Web Mail

There are two ways of checking your emails. One is on outlook, eudora or other email client installed on your personal computer. The other is through the web site. This is known as web mail. In other words, if the hosting plan has web mail option that means that you will be able to access your email accounts even when you are away from your personal computer. You can access these from the boat, a hotel even you mother in law's house. This is much like hotmail, login, check your email, logout. All you need is an Internet connection.

Email Virus Protection

When choosing a host make sure they have Virus Protection software for your email accounts. There is a lot of evil viruses creeping around and if you host is not protecting your email box from these, sooner or later you will find yourself in big trouble. Most computer viruses are actually received through email. From friends and colleagues that are sending them without their knowledge. They can spread through your whole computer and leave you in the position where you have to reinstall your whole system from the scratch Therefore it is crucial that your email box is protected from the viruses!

Site Statistics

Very very important. These are the statistics for your web site.
