Domain Names

Domain name is your address on the Internet. You do not necessarily need to have a domain name to have a web site. On the other hand it is very advisable to purchase the domain name and secure your address on the web. You can purchase your domain name to secure your company' address on the web but you do not need to have a web site developed yet. This is where domain parking comes into play. We offer this service free of charge for everyone that registers their domain name through us.

Domain Registration

the process of registering for ownership of a given domain name. Registering a domain name allows the purchaser exclusive use of that domain name for a given contract period, usually 1-2 years. Before the expiration of this period, you can choose to renew the registration or drop the domain so that another person can register it.

Domain Parking

Once you register the domain name you must park it somewhere.
What does this mean?

All domains have to be stored ("parked") on a server in order to be purchased. Some registrars including Eroute will let you park your domain name on their servers for free! In other words we will let you use our DNS temporarily, free of charge.
This means that your domain name will be kept on our servers until your site is developed ( 6 months or so is usually the limit most will give you). Thanks to this free parking service you will have a place for your domain name without a need to purchase a hosting account, until...

...your web site is developed. At this point you will need to rent a server space where your site will reside and be viewed by visitors online. In other words you will need to purchase web hosting space/plan/account.

DNS (Domain Name Server/System)

DNS is the web server where your domain is going to be either parked or hosted.
It consist of primary and secondary DNS. Both DNS are required upon the registration of the domain name. They can be acquired by request. You would request them either from your domain registrar or your web host.

DNS Update

Every hosting provider has their own unique DNS. So when you decide to change hosts you need to move your domain from your current hosting provider's DNS to the new provider's DNS. This process is known as the DNS Update and it is very simple...

DNS Update How To?

You know how upon registration of the domain name you were asked to enter primary and secondary DNS? Well, this is the very information you will need to modify to complete the DNS update. Simply log into your account and In place of your old host's primary and secondary DNS write the information of your new host's primary and secondary DNS. It's that simple! 2 lines of text!

Now, how do you find out the new information you need to enter? Simply ask your new host to supply you with their DNS details and off you go!

On the other hand if someone registered the domain name on your behalf and there is no place where you can log into your account, then, contact that person/company and simply ask them to update your DNS records to point to the new DNS.

After all this information is changed, it can take between 24-72h for it to be updated. After the update is complete you can go and cancel your old hosting account.
